Ionescu holds the all-time 3-point contest record and has consistently participated in such events throughout her career. She noted that she was surprised by the reports and wanted to set the record straight regarding her absence from the competition roster. The guard emphasized that she enjoys the challenge of these events, whether against WNBA peers or NBA star Stephen Curry.
A WNBA spokesperson stated that the league reaches out to agents to gauge interest from players, noting that some individuals accept and some decline. Despite this, other players have also expressed frustration with the process. Kayla McBride, another player mentioned in reports, noted that she only received an informal inquiry via text message from her agent rather than a formal invite.
Following these public comments, Ionescu focused on her play against the Chicago Sky.
