The incident took place after fans brought signs into the arena supporting Fever guard Sophie Cunningham. These signs referenced Cunningham’s recent public comments regarding transgender athletes. Reports indicate that Keaton directed profanity toward the individuals holding a sign that thanked the player for her stance on girls' sports. Along with the five-game ban, the league also issued an undisclosed financial fine to the co-owner.
Following the event, the Seattle Storm released a statement acknowledging the league's decision and reiterating a commitment to maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment for all attendees.
