Nvidia is providing up to $105 billion in financing to support a major new data center for OpenAI. The facility will be located in Pike City, Ohio, at the PORTS-Pike Technology Campus. SB Energy will oversee construction and management of the site through a 20-year lease agreement with the lab.
This project will begin with 4.25 gigawatts of compute capacity, with an option to expand by an additional 3.75 gigawatts later. The infrastructure is expected to start coming online in phases beginning in 2028. Nvidia is providing the necessary computing power as part of its broader push to support the expanding artificial intelligence industry.
Beyond the compute hardware, the project includes significant energy investments. SB Energy and SoftBank plan to build power sources capable of supporting 10 gigawatts of energy while investing over $4 billion into regional grid infrastructure in Ohio. Nvidia is also making a $1.5 billion investment directly into SB Energy.
OpenAI expects the data center to create roughly 35,000 construction jobs over the next several years and establish 2,500 permanent positions. Company leadership describes the facility as a necessary step to secure the compute resources required to run next-generation models.
