Infleqtion Appoints Dr. Joseph Buck as Senior Vice President of Quantum Computing Systems

Infleqtion has appointed Dr. Joseph Buck as Senior Vice President of Quantum Computing Systems. Dr. Buck joins the team after a 23-year career at Lockheed Martin, where he served as a Senior Fellow at the Advanced Technology Center. He holds a Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology, where his research focused on trapping single neutral atoms in optical cavities. This background aligns with Infleqtion’s core focus on neutral-atom quantum technology.

In his new role, Dr. Buck will lead the development of Sqale, the company’s platform for scalable neutral-atom quantum computers. Infleqtion CEO Matthew Kinsella noted that the company has moved past the proof-of-concept phase and is now focused on building production-ready hardware. The company recently delivered a 100-physical-qubit system to the National Quantum Computing Centre in the United Kingdom and maintains deployments in Japan.

Dr. Buck brings extensive experience in moving research-grade systems into commercial and defense applications. His portfolio includes 60 technical publications and numerous patents related to optical and photonic systems. He is tasked with moving current systems toward utility-scale, fault-tolerant operations. This move represents a shift in Infleqtion’s strategy toward higher-performance hardware as they prepare for the 2027 delivery of a system to the Illinois Quantum & Microelectronics Park.
