Samsung has refreshed its smartwatch lineup with the release of the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and the Galaxy Watch9. Both models go on general sale in Australia starting August 14, 2026. Choosing between them depends on how you use the device, as Samsung offers the same processor and health sensor stack across both models.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is the top-tier option priced at $1,299. It features a 47mm titanium case, a 5,000-nit display, and an 800mAh battery that lasts up to 60 hours. This model is designed for rugged use, with certifications for diving, extreme temperatures, and high-intensity outdoor activity. It also includes specific software tools for trail running, sweat loss tracking, and nutrition alerts.
For most users, the Galaxy Watch9 is the better choice. Starting at $649, it provides the same health intelligence found in the Ultra2, including Vitals, Heart Health Score, and daily fitness metrics. It comes in smaller 40mm and 44mm aluminum cases, making it significantly lighter and more comfortable for daily wear and sleep tracking. While it offers a 30-hour battery life and 3,000-nit screen, it remains plenty capable for gym workouts, swimming, and standard health monitoring.
If you prefer a traditional design, the Galaxy Watch8 Classic remains available at $899. However, it relies on older hardware compared to the new releases. Note that all these watches require an Android phone running version 13.0 or higher with Google Mobile Services. They do not work with iPhones, so Apple users will need to look elsewhere for their wearables.
