Top watchOS 27 features that will enhance your Apple Watch
Apple has announced the upcoming release of watchOS 27, which introduces significant software updates to the Apple Watch ecosystem. The headline feature is the integration of Siri AI. This system includes a dedicated app that synchronizes across all Apple devices, providing users with personal context understanding, improved in-app actions, and broader knowledge capabilities. While not present in the initial beta, Apple plans to roll out this functionality in English later this year.
The update modifies how users navigate their device via the Digital Crown. Pressing it now triggers a dynamic app grid. This grid displays six apps chosen based on usage frequency and popularity, with the Siri AI app occupying the center spot. Users retain the ability to access the full app list by swiping up after pressing the crown.
Fitness and health tracking receive notable attention in this release. Workout Buddy now operates independently without requiring an active connection to an iPhone. Additionally, the tool expands language support to include Spanish and offers deeper insights into pace, distance, and duration. Cycle Tracking has been updated to include support for perimenopause and menopause, providing notifications and educational resources. Furthermore, treadmill tracking accuracy improves through updated motion algorithms.
Interaction methods also evolve with watchOS 27. The Smart Stack widget system gains support for single-tap gestures, allowing users to interact with widgets without touching the screen with their other hand. This complements the existing double-tap gesture. The Find My application is now unified, replacing the previous fragmented approach and adding Precision Finding support for items like AirTags and AirPods.
Finally, the operating system introduces battery management notifications that suggest disabling unused features to extend runtime, though users maintain control over these settings. Other additions include faster music playback, Wallet app updates, and improved Wi-Fi connectivity. The software will be compatible with Apple Watch Series 9 and later, Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later, and Apple Watch SE 3. The official launch is scheduled for September.
