Apple Watch Just Got Smarter: Siri AI Arrives in watchOS 27 Public Beta
Apple has released the watchOS 27 public beta, bringing major updates to the Apple Watch ecosystem. This version introduces a significant refresh for Siri, including an updated interface and the ability to log past conversations for better context. A dedicated Siri app now allows users to manage commands directly from their wrist, marking a shift toward more independent device control.
Navigation changes take center stage in this release. The traditional app switcher is replaced by a new menu system that highlights frequently used applications to save time. The Smart Stack is also more capable, now surfacing transit card suggestions, birthday reminders, and vehicle location markers. Apple has refined the visual language of the watch with a liquid glass aesthetic and updated notification controls, including a direct dismissal button.
Fitness tracking receives attention through improved data precision for steps, heart rate zones, and calorie counts. The Workout Buddy tool now functions offline, and new integration with gym equipment via AirPods promises a more connected session for regular runners and gym-goers. The Find My app has been unified, bringing people, devices, and items into one location view.
Not every feature remains, however. Apple has discontinued the Walkie-Talkie app and removed the double-tap gesture previously used for app switching. This update requires an iPhone running iOS 17 and is limited to the Apple Watch Series 9 and newer, alongside the 3rd-generation Apple Watch SE. Support for older hardware has ended to prioritize the performance of recent chips.
Installing beta software carries standard risks, so users should perform a full backup of their data before starting the update process. These changes indicate a focus on hardware-specific performance and updated interface design over legacy feature maintenance.
