Facebook and Instagram users reporting some outages, say internet watchdogs

Users across the globe reported widespread access issues with Facebook and Instagram early Sunday morning. Reports indicated that users were unable to load their feeds or access platform content. Data from DownDetector recorded more than 23,000 reports for Facebook and 18,000 for Instagram in the United States between 3:44 and 5:02 a.m. ET.

During this window, affected users saw error messages stating their accounts were temporarily unavailable due to site issues. They were prompted to attempt to log in again later. The outage was international in scope, though it was not linked to any specific country-level internet disruption or government censorship.

NetBlocks confirmed the international nature of the technical failure. While Facebook and Instagram experienced significant downtime, Meta subsidiary WhatsApp remained fully operational throughout the period. The number of reports began to drop significantly after 5:00 a.m. ET as systems began to recover.

Meta has not provided a specific cause for the disruption. This event marks another instance of technical instability for the parent company, impacting millions of users who rely on these platforms for daily connectivity. Monitoring services continue to track status updates as services return to normal functionality.
