Rock Island police have taken a former student into custody following reports of a suspicious internet search. School district leaders were alerted to the situation Thursday night and took immediate action to ensure the safety of the campus community.

While officials stated that no direct threat currently exists against district schools, they requested that faculty and staff maintain a heightened level of awareness throughout the day. The district is coordinating with law enforcement to monitor the situation.

As a precautionary measure, additional police personnel were stationed at the school attended by the former student on Friday morning. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities process the information regarding the search activity.

Parents and community members are encouraged to keep lines of communication open with the school district for further updates. Law enforcement will continue to provide a presence at the location to ensure operations remain calm and orderly.
