DNIB.com Reports Internet Has 401.6 Million Domain Name Registrations at the End of the Second Quarter of 2026
Verisign reports that global domain name registrations reached 401.6 million by the end of the second quarter of 2026. This figure represents a 2.3 percent increase over the first quarter of 2026 and an 8.1 percent rise compared to the same period in 2025. Data provided in the latest Domain Name Industry Brief indicates that growth continues across the board.
The combined base for .com and .net domains now stands at 179.1 million registrations. This includes 166.6 million for .com and 12.5 million for .net. These two domains saw a collective growth of 3.0 million registrations during the quarter. New registrations for these specific extensions reached 12.7 million, showing a notable increase from the 10.4 million recorded in the second quarter of 2025.
Country-code top-level domains also experienced growth, finishing the quarter with 148.6 million registrations. This represents a 1.6 percent increase from the previous quarter. The report identifies the top 10 country-code domains as .cn, .de, .uk, .ru, .nl, .br, .fr, .au, .in, and .eu.
