The Rock Island-Milan School District worked with local law enforcement to address a potential security concern this morning. The Rock Island Police Department alerted school officials to suspicious online activity involving a former student, prompting the district to increase vigilance across their campuses as a precaution.
While officials stated that the schools were never under a direct threat, the police department stationed additional resources at locations the former student previously attended to ensure the safety of students and staff. These measures allowed the district to continue normal school operations without interruption.
The individual responsible for the online activity is currently in police custody as of 9:46 am. Both the school district and the police department communicated throughout the incident to maintain a secure environment for all participants in the educational program.
School leadership expressed gratitude to the police for their response speed and coordination. No further threats to the district exist at this time.
