Google’s Pixel 11 Glow might be called ‘HiLight’

Google is refining its hardware features for the upcoming Pixel 11 Pro. Recent findings from the Android 17 Beta software suggest a new notification and interaction tool currently identified as HiLight. Originally spotted as Pixel Glow, this feature utilizes subtle lights on the back of the phone to provide visual feedback.

The system operates when the device is face down. It integrates with the camera bar on the back of the device to emit a full spectrum of colors. The primary purpose is to signal activity to the user without requiring them to pick up the phone.

Two core use cases are currently clear. The first involves incoming calls from designated favorite contacts, allowing users to identify callers through specific light patterns. The second feature links to Gemini. The light provides visual feedback during hands-free interactions with the assistant, similar to the rotating effects seen on other computing platforms.

While the branding now leans toward HiLight, questions remain regarding how third-party developers might integrate with this hardware. It is currently unclear if the feature will remain exclusive to Google applications or if it will open up to the broader ecosystem.
