Hinge app will show testimonials from friends

Hinge is changing how users build their profiles by introducing a new feature called Friend’s Take. This tool allows daters to request testimonials from people they know to display on their dating profile. By moving away from self-written bios alone, the app aims to provide a different perspective to potential matches.

Users can recruit up to 10 friends to contribute to their profile. These friends are able to leave written feedback, share photos, record voice notes, or post videos. A notable aspect of this feature is that the friends do not need to have a Hinge account themselves. They simply receive an invitation to answer specific prompts about the user, such as sharing a humorous memory or describing their character.

The feature is available globally as of this week. Dating apps are currently focused on attracting the younger demographic, specifically Gen Z users, who often look for more transparency and social proof in their search for connections. By adding this layer of external endorsement, Hinge is positioning its platform to better mirror how people are introduced in real life.

This update follows a wider trend among mobile applications to keep users engaged by integrating social circles. While dating apps often face scrutiny regarding how users present themselves, this addition aims to solve the problem of self-presentation by letting those who know the user best speak for them.
