iOS 27 makes your iPhone faster in 30+ ways
Apple has started the public beta period for iOS 27, and early reports highlight a significant focus on system speed. The update includes more than 30 specific performance improvements aimed at making the operating system more responsive across various hardware configurations. These changes apply to devices as old as the iPhone 11, which marks a change for users holding onto older hardware.
The company claims that app launch speeds on older hardware see improvements of up to 30 percent compared to previous versions. Specific system areas show high gains as well, such as Photos, where loading times for new captures drop by up to 70 percent. Safari also gains speed in handling web applications and JavaScript, while AirDrop transfers reach up to 80 percent faster speeds than the current standard.
Beyond basic app launches, Apple prioritized background processes to reduce latency. This includes faster indexing for Spotlight, improved NFC reading reliability, and quicker transitions for Accessibility modes. Music playback, HomeKit pairing, and AirPlay connectivity also receive performance adjustments to reduce time-to-action.
The public beta is currently available for testing. A general release for all supported devices is scheduled for later this fall. These refinements arrive alongside a system-wide overhaul of Siri, suggesting that the engineering team managed significant background work despite the new feature additions.
