Report: OnePlus to Pull Out of US and Europe
OnePlus is reportedly preparing to exit the smartphone markets in the United States and Europe. This decision is part of a broader corporate restructuring at its parent company, Oppo. Industry reports indicate that the shift could occur as early as this week as the company attempts to navigate a difficult period for the mobile hardware sector.
While OnePlus initially gained a dedicated following by offering high-performance devices at competitive prices, the brand has struggled to maintain its footing against market leaders. Apple and Samsung currently dominate the landscape, and newer entries from companies like Google and Motorola have further squeezed the market share available to smaller players. Recent data shows that the global smartphone market remains under significant pressure, with declining shipments and rising component costs impacting profitability.
Beyond the immediate withdrawal from Western regions, the company plans to expand this exit to other parts of the world, including India, by 2027. This move follows a period of stagnation for the brand, exacerbated by rising memory costs that hit entry-level and mid-range manufacturers hardest. As margins shrink across the industry, companies with less scale find it difficult to sustain international operations against premium rivals.
This restructuring mirrors challenges faced by other brands under the Oppo umbrella, including Realme, which is also set to exit the Chinese market. With the recent economic strain in the smartphone sector, the move signals a broader consolidation within the industry as companies pivot to prioritize sustainability over aggressive geographic expansion. For now, the transition marks a notable conclusion to the brand's attempt to disrupt the premium mobile space in the West.
