Samsung Electronics has set a new benchmark for its smartphone lineup. The company confirmed that its latest Galaxy Z8 foldable series recorded 1.44 million preorders during a seven-day window in Korea. This figure breaks the previous record held by the Galaxy Note 10 in 2019, which stood at 1.38 million units over a longer timeframe.

The demand highlights a shift in consumer preference toward foldable hardware. The Galaxy Fold8 accounted for approximately 70 percent of total preorders, indicating that buyers are gravitating toward the new 4:3 aspect ratio design. Major Korean carriers, including SK Telecom and LG Uplus, confirmed that a significant majority of customers opted for this specific model, with many users transitioning from traditional bar-type smartphones for the first time.

Demographic data from the launch also points toward a broader market reach. Samsung reported that purchases by women aged 10 to 40 more than doubled compared to previous generations. This trend reflects a shift in who is adopting foldable technology, moving away from a niche user base toward a wider audience.

International indicators suggest that this momentum is not limited to the domestic market. In Japan, specific configurations of the Fold8 sold out on the official online store, while supply chain constraints in the United States have pushed back delivery estimates for certain high-capacity models due to high volume.

This performance is critical for Samsung as it moves into the second half of the year. The company's Mobile Experience business reported an operating loss of 700 billion won in the second quarter due to rising component costs. Executives expect the shift toward high-end, premium hardware like the Z8 series to improve profit margins and stabilize the company's financial position throughout the remainder of the year.
