Samsung Unveils First 4:3 Foldable Phone

Samsung Electronics has scheduled its Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event for July 22 in London. The company plans to introduce new hardware, including the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Z Fold 8 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8. A notable addition to the lineup is the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which features a 4:3 aspect ratio, representing the first time Samsung has moved away from its standard foldable dimensions for a primary model.

The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 includes a 5.5-inch external display and a 7.6-inch internal display. Technical specifications feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 5th Gen processor along with 1TB of storage capacity. The battery size reaches 4800mAh, marking a 9 percent increase over the previous generation device.

For users requiring higher performance, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra retains the traditional 3:2 aspect ratio. This premium version offers a 200 million-pixel main camera sensor and a 5000mAh battery. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 continues the vertical folding form factor, utilizing either a Qualcomm or Exynos processor depending on the specific market region.

Samsung also intends to reveal the Galaxy Glasses at this event. These smart glasses arrive as a collaboration with Google and feature integration with AI assistants for tasks such as real-time translation and navigation. The design phase involved partnerships with eyewear brands like Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to refine the look of the wearable device.

Market analysts anticipate a slight increase in retail pricing for the new foldable models. This adjustment accounts for rising component costs across the industry. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra 256GB is projected to retail at approximately 2,099 dollars, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 256GB model is expected to cost 1,899 dollars. These devices represent the next stage of the Samsung hardware strategy.
