Apple Publishes Detailed Technical Specifications for Third-party Vision Pro Motion Controllers
Apple has released formal technical specifications for third-party motion controllers compatible with the Vision Pro headset. This move follows the announcement that VisionOS 27 will introduce native support for external tracked accessories, marking a shift in the platform's hardware ecosystem strategy.
The new guidelines are documented within Apple's Accessory Design Guidelines for Apple Devices. A dedicated 74-page section titled Spatial Accessories provides manufacturers with specific requirements for hardware construction. This includes precise data on LED wavelength, radiance levels, and logic board layout designs.
This update signals a significant change in direction for the company. At launch, the Vision Pro relied exclusively on eye and hand tracking. After two years of market feedback, Apple is now opening the platform to custom controllers that interface directly with the device's tracking system.
Developers and hardware engineers can access these schematics to ensure their products meet the necessary benchmarks for performance and compatibility. By sharing these standards, Apple aims to standardize the hardware requirements for external devices that intend to function within the spatial computing environment.
