ASUS’ ROG Xreal R1 is a gaming-first pair of smart glasses
ASUS is entering the wearables market through a new partnership with Xreal. The companies unveiled the ROG Xreal R1 AR gaming glasses at CES. This device is positioned specifically as a dedicated gaming peripheral rather than a general-purpose smart glass product.
The hardware features a 1080p micro-OLED display that supports a 240Hz refresh rate. It offers a 171-inch virtual screen and a 57-degree field of view, utilizing sound technology tuned by Bose. The unit relies on the Xreal X1 SoC for processing duties.
ASUS includes an ROG Control Dock to manage connectivity. The dock features two HDMI 2.0 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4 connection, allowing users to toggle input between a PC and console. The glasses also support direct video input via USB-C from devices like smartphones or the ROG Ally.
Two specific viewing modes are available. Follow Mode tracks head movement for a more natural experience, while Anchor Mode locks the display in a fixed position. The glasses weigh 91g, which is a substantial weight for extended wear, reflecting the hardware intensity of the design.
Pricing and availability remain unconfirmed. Market analysts expect the cost to align with existing Xreal One Pro hardware, which retails for approximately US$649. ASUS has not yet specified a firm release date for the product.
