Mega Evolving Rayquaza in Pokémon Go requires a specific item called a Meteorite. This item is essential for teaching the Dragon-type Charged Attack known as Dragon Ascent. Without this attack, Mega Evolution for Rayquaza remains inaccessible.

Players primarily obtain Meteorites by completing research quests or defeating Mega Rayquaza during raid battles. Since there is no guarantee that a raid will drop a Meteorite, players often rely on event-specific research tasks. These items are one-time use, so careful selection of which Rayquaza to evolve is necessary for competitive play.

Beyond the Meteorite, you must collect 400 Mega Rayquaza Energy to initiate the transformation. This energy is gathered by winning raids or walking with Rayquaza as your buddy Pokémon. Once you have both requirements, you navigate to the Rayquaza moveset menu in your storage to apply the item.

Mega Rayquaza provides significant utility for trainers. Having it active grants damage boosts to Dragon, Flying, and Psychic-type Pokémon during raid and Gym battles. You also earn extra candy and experience points when catching these specific types. Increasing the Mega Level through repeated evolutions further reduces rest periods and energy costs, making long-term use more efficient.
