Philadelphia police have identified 22-year-old Zymire Hughes as the man accused of terrorizing women while wearing a Chucky-style mask. Surveillance video captured Hughes chasing multiple pedestrians throughout the city, including a woman who was walking to a workout class.
Authorities confirm there is an active warrant for his arrest. Officials state that Hughes filmed these encounters, seemingly for personal amusement or to gain attention on social media. While he did not use a physical weapon, he reportedly behaved in ways that left victims fearing for their lives.
District Attorney Larry Krasner confirmed during a news conference that Hughes is on probation for a previous crime in Montgomery County. Investigators believe he may have fled Pennsylvania and could be traveling to the West Coast for work. Police are asking the public to stay alert as they pursue the suspect.
One local resident, Jameka Wilson, credited her stage combat training for helping her defend herself during an encounter with the man. Police continue to monitor leads and have identified multiple social media accounts linked to the suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact law enforcement immediately.
