President Prabowo Subianto led a moment of silence during the national ceremony in Jakarta to honor the victims of this catastrophe. Many citizens spent the day in temporary shelters or among the remains of their houses rather than participating in traditional celebrations.
Logistics currently present the biggest challenge for emergency teams. Steep roads and damage from landslides block access to some remote communities. Military and police units are working to deliver essential supplies like food, clean water, and medicine. More than 1,800 personnel are on the ground in the disaster zone with support from aircraft and vessels.
The situation is particularly dire in areas like Manggarai regency. Residents remain on edge due to frequent aftershocks. Local authorities have declared a 14-day state of emergency to manage the flow of aid and coordinate medical relief through makeshift field hospitals.
