Spanish practice Exitprojectes has completed the rehabilitation and extension of Casa Blajot in Premià de Dalt. This project honors one of the final residences designed by architect Josep Lluís Sert before his death in 1983. The original house is a compact, sculptural structure set into a steep hillside on the Catalan coast, oriented specifically to capture views of the Mediterranean Sea.

The architects approached this work as an act of recognition rather than a simple renovation. By conducting a detailed historical study of the site, the team identified the key principles that define the building. These include the hierarchy between the open southern facade and the more introspective rear, along with the use of patios and timber shutters as devices to regulate light and ventilation. The design ensures these features continue to serve their original purpose while meeting contemporary standards for comfort.

Exitprojectes chose a restrained design language for the extension. The new additions maintain the scale and material character of the existing structure, creating a quiet dialogue between old and new. The project avoids formal mimicry, instead prioritizing the core intelligence of the original layout. This approach preserves the house as a functional, generous space that remains deeply rooted in its landscape.
