Yein Lee / Phil Collins / untranquil now
Cukrarna Gallery in Ljubljana is hosting three exhibitions through the end of the summer, offering a look into contemporary art, political commentary, and historical narratives. The programming includes a series of sculptures by Vienna-based artist Yein Lee, film work by Phil Collins, and a group exhibition titled untranquil now.
Yein Lee’s exhibition, Accomplice, focuses on sculptures and floor installations created with polymer gypsum and epoxy putty. Lee’s work reflects on migration and ecological stress, using materials that appear to exist in a state of flux. Her sculptures act as physical records of instability, meant to shift as visitors move through the space. This installation is on display until August 30, 2026.
Phil Collins contributes to the summer schedule with Nothing Is Inevitable Until It Happens, a program featuring three of his major films: Tomorrow Is Always Too Long, Ceremony, and Mixtape #1. Curated by Alenka Gregorič, the selection rotates on a three-week cycle. Collins uses documentary elements, music, and performance to examine how media culture and politics define individual and collective memories. His work remains available for viewing through August 30, 2026.
The gallery is also presenting untranquil now, a collaboration with Hamburger Kunsthalle that runs until January 3, 2027. Curated by Corinne Diserens, this exhibition brings together work from a wide range of international artists. It focuses on the intersection of memory and space, using diverse media to highlight how art interacts with political and social history. The exhibition looks at how bodies and perceptions are shaped by troubled events and specific contexts, inviting visitors to engage with a complex web of historical resonances.
Cukrarna Gallery is located at Poljanski nasip 40, Ljubljana. It is open to the public from Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 7 pm.
