Harwood Museum expands to Santa Fe with acquisition of historic property

The Harwood Museum of Art is expanding its reach beyond Taos. The institution has acquired the historic Peyton Wright Gallery property, also known as the Spiegelberg House, located on East Palace Avenue in Santa Fe.

Executive Director Juniper Leherissey states the acquisition serves as a move to connect the Taos-based museum with the broader arts audience in the state capital. This addition is intended to create a bridge between the museum and the University of New Mexico main campus.

While the property acquisition is complete, the public should not expect an immediate opening. The museum anticipates a two to three-year timeline to prepare the space for visitors. During this period, leadership will coordinate on partnerships and community feedback to define the future of the new site.

The project aims to provide new opportunities for students and to increase the visibility of Taos-based art throughout New Mexico. Interested parties can track project developments or submit input through the museum website.
