The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town has announced the appointment of Elvira Dyangani Ose as its new artistic director. She will officially step into the role on October 1, 2026. She succeeds Koyo Kouoh, who served as director and chief curator from 2019 until her death last year.
Dyangani Ose arrives with a background in international institutional leadership. She currently serves as the artistic director for the 2026–27 Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial. Her departure from the directorship of MACBA in Barcelona followed tensions regarding the time commitments required for her work in the United Arab Emirates.
Her resume includes significant tenures at various arts organizations. She has held leadership and curatorial positions at Tate in London, The Showroom in London, and the New York-based organization Creative Time. Her appointment marks a transition for the Cape Town museum as it looks to its next chapter of programming and collection development.
