The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town has announced that Elvira Dyangani Ose will serve as its new artistic director starting October 1. This appointment concludes a search that spanned 15 months following the death of Koyo Kouoh, who led the institution for six years before passing away in May 2025.
Dyangani Ose brings experience to the role as she prepares to guide the museum into its next chapter. Her connection to the institution is established, as she previously served as one of the jurors for the Golden Lion awards alongside Kouoh. Kouoh herself had been named chief curator of the 61st Venice Biennale prior to her death.
The museum remains a significant hub for contemporary art on the continent, and the transition marks a shift in leadership for the Cape Town venue. Staff and stakeholders look toward the upcoming autumn start date as the institution maintains its focus on its core mission in the international art scene.
