The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is transforming East 88th Street into an open-air art venue this Thursday, August 20. The event, titled Late Shift: Block pARTy, runs from 5pm to 8:30pm and invites New Yorkers to enjoy an evening of outdoor programming. Admission is free, though attendees should register in advance.

The programming draws direct inspiration from the museum’s current exhibition, Guggenheim Pop: 1960 to Now. The street will host a variety of activities, including large-scale games like Connect 4, Jenga, and badminton. Visitors can also participate in hands-on art projects or use the museum’s mobile art cart for drawing. A photo booth with thematic props will be available for attendees throughout the evening.

Musical performances are scheduled across the event. Producer Debit begins at 5pm with a set featuring electronic and percussion sounds. Percussion group A.B.E.L.A. performs at 6pm, followed by the drumming ensemble Fogo Azul at 7pm. The musical lineup covers a range of styles from techno to Brazilian percussion.

Food options include mocktails, popcorn, pretzels, and hot dogs served by The Wright Restaurant. For those interested in film, the museum will host a screening of the Barbie movie inside the Peter B. Lewis Theater. Note that the museum galleries themselves will remain closed during the party hours. Guests who wish to view the Pop Art exhibit should schedule their visit prior to the 5pm start time.
