Liquid Courage On Tap at Village Arts In Newest Exhibition
Village Arts recently unveiled its newest exhibition, Liquid Courage, featuring work from two dozen local creators. The show centers on the properties of water and the cultural significance of various liquids. Artists submitted a diverse range of media, including sculpture, photography, fiber art, and traditional painting to interpret the theme through different lenses.
The exhibit covers a wide spectrum of subjects. Landscapes play a significant role, with works ranging from desert scenes to crashing ocean waves. Ward Zaelke explores the duality of arid environments and stormy seas, while Jeanne Bowles contributes a piece titled Pond By Fire, which captures the reflection of wildfire smoke on still water. Other artists like Karen Trythall and Eileen Patterson focus on the movement and power of water currents.
The collection also features unexpected animal subjects and cultural references. Visitors will find depictions of rubber ducks, hippos, and sea creatures alongside pieces portraying classic Americana and historical figures. Tomàs Redondo contributes photography focused on beverage containers, adding a literal interpretation of the exhibition title to the display. This theme even pays homage to the venue itself, as the front counter at Village Arts functions as the original bar from the nearby Fuller Lodge.
