Grand Haven mom authored book dedicated to her six children before family's deaths
Amanda Karolkiewicz, a mother of six from Grand Haven, previously authored a children’s book titled The Magical Mantra. The book focuses on self-talk and the inherent value of children, themes she deeply connected to through her own experiences as a parent. Her illustrator, Krystal Kramer, noted that the book contains a dedication to each of her children by name.
Tragically, Amanda and her six children were killed last Friday at their home on Riverside Trail. Authorities from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the deaths are being investigated as a murder-suicide. Reports indicate that Kristopher Karolkiewicz shot and killed his wife and their children before setting the home on fire and taking his own life. The handgun used in the incident was legally registered to him.
Evidence shows no prior police involvement at the home and no signs of a struggle. The community and local school district are grieving the loss of Amanda, who was a dedicated educator, and her six children. Her parents described her as a devoted mother, while coworkers and family members continue to process this event. The investigation is ongoing as officials seek to understand the circumstances of this loss.
