Dakota Johnson has officially debuted her transformation into Marilyn Monroe. The actress appears in the new 17-minute short film titled Flesh Impact. The project is written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and is set for a premiere at the Venice Film Festival this September.

Gyllenhaal admits she initially held reservations about the casting choice. She wondered if the visual match between Johnson and the late icon was sufficient. However, Gyllenhaal eventually dismissed these concerns, noting that the public perception of Monroe is often blurred by years of commodification and myth-making. She decided the creative vision outweighed strict physical resemblance.

The film takes a distinct approach to the subject. Rather than serving as a traditional biopic, it aims to explore the person behind the global persona. Johnson plays Monroe at age 36, which is the age at which she passed away in 1962. The production also features screen legend Ellen Burstyn, who portrays a fictionalized, older version of the icon.
