Johnny Depp Makes Surprise Comic-Con Appearance as Ebenezer Scrooge
Johnny Depp appeared at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday in full character as Ebenezer Scrooge. The actor arrived at a shop location in the Gaslamp district dressed in the iconic black coat and top hat for his role in the upcoming Paramount film, Ebenezer.
Fans gathered for the promotion in warm weather, where they were greeted by Christmas carolers before the star appeared. Depp remained in character throughout the event, engaging with the crowd by ribbing fans who were dressed as his previous characters and handing out candy to onlookers. The event served as a promotional activation for the film, which is directed by Ti West.
Later that day, Depp moved the presentation to Hall H. He walked onto the stage carrying a lit candle to help reveal the first trailer for the movie. The film features a cast including Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint, and Daisy Ridley, and it is scheduled to hit theaters on November 13.
This appearance marks another move back toward major blockbuster projects for Depp. After showing an early look at the project at CinemaCon earlier this year, his latest showing at Comic-Con signals a high-profile return to the spotlight for the actor.
