‘Blade Runner 2099’ Trailer: Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer Bring Ridley Scott’s Sci-Fi World to TV
Prime Video has unveiled the trailer for Blade Runner 2099, marking a significant return to the iconic sci-fi universe created by Ridley Scott. This limited series follows the events of the original 1982 film and its 2049 sequel, expanding the narrative reach of the franchise to television.
The series features Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as Olwen, a replicant nearing the end of her life, and Hunter Schafer as Cora, a human fleeing from blade runners. The trailer highlights their uneasy partnership as they navigate a conflict between replicants and humans in a decaying world. The footage concludes with a sharp reminder of the friction between the old and new orders, setting a high-stakes tone for the series.
Production for the series took place primarily in the Czech Republic at Prague’s Barrandov Studios, with additional shooting in Barcelona. Silka Luisa, recognized for her work on Shining Girls, is the showrunner and executive producer. Ridley Scott is also attached as an executive producer through his Scott Free Productions company.
Jonathan van Tulleken, who directed episodes for the series Shōgun, is handling the first two episodes. The cast includes Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Katelyn Rose Downey, and Johnny Harris. Blade Runner 2099 is scheduled for a November 25 premiere on Prime Video.
