Ryan Coogler Met David Jonsson in a Secret Meeting About Black Panther
Marvel Studios has officially tapped David Jonsson to take on the mantle of the next Black Panther. The actor will star as T’Challa’s son in the upcoming third installment of the franchise, which carries a release date of December 15, 2028.
Director Ryan Coogler confirmed the casting came after a secret meeting held six months ago. Coogler stated that he identified Jonsson as the right fit after watching his previous work and meeting with him in person. The director shared his confidence in the choice with Marvel head Kevin Feige shortly after their private discussion.
Feige expressed his excitement regarding the news, noting that the studio had been sitting on the announcement for half a year. The upcoming film features the return of original cast members Letitia Wright and Winston Duke, marking a significant new chapter for the cinematic series following the legacy established in the previous films.
This development continues the evolution of the Black Panther storyline, which has remained a cornerstone of the Marvel universe since the first film debuted in 2018. Production teams are now preparing for the scheduled release as the project moves into its next phase of development.
