Rosario Dawson recently confirmed that she filmed a scene for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but the appearance did not make it into the final version of the film. During an event at GalaxyCon in Raleigh, North Carolina, the actress shared that her role as the nurse Claire Temple was removed from the project.
Dawson noted that she had already prepared behind the scenes photos for her family, including images of her grandson wearing Spider-Man gear. When she informed her mother about the cut, her mother was disappointed that she could not share the pictures online. Dawson jokingly referred to herself as a reject of the franchise during the discussion with fans.
Despite the removal of her scene, Dawson expressed that she remains a fan of the character. She reflected on her personal history with Spider-Man, noting that her uncle was a comic book artist who practiced his craft by drawing the hero. She also pointed out that one of the new comics features a young Peter Parker attending PS19 in the Lower East Side, which is the same elementary school she attended as a child.
Although her specific contribution to the new film remains on the cutting room floor, Dawson maintains that her character exists within the same cinematic universe. She stated that she hopes to play the role of Claire Temple again in future projects.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, continues to perform at the box office. The film is currently on track to reach $700 million in domestic ticket sales, placing it in an elite group of Marvel Cinematic Universe titles that have achieved that specific financial milestone.
