'Supergirl' Digital Streaming Date Officially Confirmed 1 Month After Theatrical Debut
The latest DC Studios production Supergirl is officially heading to digital platforms. Warner Bros. confirmed that the film will be available to rent or purchase on Premium Video on Demand services starting July 28. This move comes roughly one month after the movie debuted in theaters.
While the film struggled to meet expectations during its theatrical run, earning 122 million dollars against a production budget of nearly 186 million dollars, it now has an opportunity to reach a wider audience at home. Critics offered a mixed reception upon release, resulting in a 53 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though the audience response remains more favorable at 73 percent. Many viewers pointed to Milly Alcock as a standout performer despite broader complaints about visual effects.
Following the digital debut, the film is scheduled for a physical media launch on September 8, including Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K UHD formats. Although a specific date for an exclusive streaming service premiere has not been finalized, the title is expected to appear on HBO Max.
The character of Kara Zor-El is not finished in the new DCU. While a direct sequel currently lacks concrete plans, the protagonist will return in the upcoming film Man of Tomorrow, which is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027. This project will pair her with other established figures like Green Lantern and Hawkgirl to face a significant threat, offering fans another look at this iteration of the Woman of Tomorrow.
