Country music icon Dolly Parton is the latest recipient of the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The organization announced that Parton will accept the honor via video during their upcoming ceremony, scheduled for September 16 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
The award recognizes Parton for her six-decade career, which spans songwriting, performance, and her role as a cultural ambassador. The association notes her ability to blend Appalachian traditions with country, folk, bluegrass, gospel, and pop styles. Her catalog includes classics like 9 to 5 and Islands in the Stream, both of which reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
Beyond her musical output, the organization selected Parton due to her influence in film, television, and business. Her philanthropic efforts, specifically the Imagination Library, continue to provide books to children across the United States, Australia, Canada, and the U.K. She joins a group of previous honorees that includes Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, and Emmylou Harris.
This presentation occurs during the 2026 Americana Honors & Awards event. While other industry figures remain up for competitive prizes like artist of the year, Parton receives this specific accolade to mark her long-standing impact on the music industry and her work as a creative force.
