Snoop Dogg Biopic From Universal Hits Theaters Next Summer

Universal Pictures has officially locked in an August 6, 2027 release date for the upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic. The film, titled Snoop, is moving into the slot previously held by an untitled event feature for the studio. This project marks a significant step for the rapper and mogul as it stands as the first production under the new agreement between Death Row Pictures and NBCUniversal Entertainment.

The creative team behind the project features director Craig Brewer, known for his work on Hustle & Flow and Song Sung Blue. The script is based on a draft by Joe Robert Cole, with Jonathan Daviss cast to portray the central figure of the legendary West Coast artist. The film will draw from the extensive musical catalog associated with the artist and include involvement from key producers, including Brian Grazer and Snoop Dogg himself.

Universal continues to see success with musical biopics. The studio previously managed overseas distribution for the Michael Jackson project, which surpassed $1 billion at the global box office. Other notable successes for the company include Straight Outta Compton and the Eminem autobiographical film 8 Mile.
