‘Rings of Power’ Debuts Season 3 Trailer; Simon Pegg Joins Cast as the Balrog
Amazon Studios just pulled back the curtain on the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, unveiling a new trailer during the San Diego Comic-Con presentation. The series continues its exploration of Middle-earth, focusing on the period when Sauron orchestrates the creation of the One Ring to secure his dominance over the lands and its people.
Fans can look forward to a major casting addition for the upcoming season. Simon Pegg is confirmed to join the show, taking on the role of the Balrog. This creature, described as a massive magma monster, will play a significant part in the forging of the ring as Sauron works to bind the peoples of Middle-earth to his will.
Season 3 brings back several established cast members including Charlie Vickers, Morfydd Clark, and Ismael Cruz Córdova. New additions to the ensemble include Jamie Campbell Bower, Eddie Marsan, and Andrew Richardson. The production remains under the guidance of showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.
The series is set thousands of years before the events depicted in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, keeping its focus on the origins of the rings and the return of the Dark Lord. Production leadership includes executive producers Lindsey Weber and Justin Doble, with Charlotte Brändström, Sanaa Hamri, and Stefan Schwartz directing episodes throughout the season. This update comes as fans celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original film trilogy.
