Upon her return to Studio 1A, Guthrie greeted her co-anchor Craig Melvin, remarking that it was good to be back home. Melvin welcomed her back, noting that the team had missed her presence during her weeks of leave.
The conversation between the two hosts shifted to the current Powerball jackpot, which sits at $905 million. Melvin joked that if his numbers were to hit, he would not be returning to his seat at the news desk. He told Guthrie that his departure from the show would be permanent if he won the nearly billion-dollar prize.
Outside of her recent filming schedule, Guthrie has been dealing with a difficult personal situation involving her mother, Nancy Guthrie. August 1 marked six months since Nancy was abducted from her residence in Tucson, Arizona. Guthrie remains active in seeking information about the case and has issued public pleas for assistance to bring her family closer to answers regarding her mother’s disappearance.
