'Stuart Fails to Save Universe' Creator On "Worst Choice" To Lead Spin-Off

The Big Bang Theory universe continues to expand with its latest spin-off project, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. After nearly two decades of franchise history, series creator Chuck Lorre is pulling a supporting character into the spotlight.

Kevin Sussman, known for his portrayal of the long-suffering comic book store owner Stuart Bloom, takes the lead in this new adventure. The premise centers on a multiverse incident triggered when Stuart accidentally breaks a device belonging to Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter. This error forces his character to navigate a series of high-stakes events across different realities.

Lorre recently explained his reasoning for selecting such a minor character to carry a full series. He described the choice as difficult from a narrative standpoint because Stuart is not the typical hero figure. However, he noted that this exact quality is what makes the character work for the story. The unexpected nature of his role provides the friction required to drive the plot forward.

Sussman expressed his own surprise at the casting decision. The actor admitted that he did not anticipate landing a starring role for a spin-off, as his character occupied a smaller space within the original show. Now, he joins co-stars Brian Posehn, Lauren Lapkus, and John Ross Bowie to anchor the production.

The show aims to maintain the humor associated with the franchise while exploring the sci-fi elements of the multiverse. It premieres Thursday at 9pm ET on HBO Max.
