Rocket Lab successfully deployed eight satellite platforms for MDA Space on August 15. The mission launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station to support the Globalstar constellation. These satellites provide direct-to-device communications and IoT services from orbit.

This delivery marks the first installment of a 17-satellite contract between the two companies. Rocket Lab confirmed that all eight units are performing as expected. The spacecraft are now undergoing commissioning to integrate into the existing Globalstar network. Engineers designed these 500kg platforms based on the Rocket Lab Lightning bus.

Production for these units occurred at the company headquarters in Long Beach, California. The design includes proprietary components such as solar arrays, reaction wheels, and avionics. This standardized manufacturing approach aims to control costs and keep mission timelines on track.

CEO Peter Beck stated the deployment demonstrates the company capability to manage the entire mission lifecycle from design to on-orbit operations. The Lightning platform architecture is currently in use for various other projects, including contracts for the U.S. Space Force and the Space Development Agency. This success reinforces the position of Rocket Lab as a primary supplier for major satellite constellations.
