Authorities in Boulder County say bear break-in not related to man found injured, unconscious

Authorities in Boulder County have confirmed that a bear break-in at a local home was not responsible for the severe injuries suffered by the resident. Sheriff's deputies responded to the residence after a report suggested the man was victim to an animal attack.

Upon investigation, Colorado Parks and Wildlife determined the bear entered the home while the man was already unconscious from existing medical conditions. The animal did not make physical contact with the individual. Officials noted the bear also breached a vehicle parked outside the property.

Due to this behavior, wildlife management has labeled the animal a threat because it no longer displays fear toward humans. The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is now tracking the bear to carry out a lethal removal. Residents are reminded to be vigilant as the region reports unusually high levels of bear activity this season.
