The decision to host this memorial comes after a difficult period for the bird and her fans. Jackie sustained injuries during an attack by two subadult eagles last month. Despite receiving three weeks of intensive care at the Ojai Raptor Center, she passed away at approximately 14 years old.
The team, which serves as a single-A affiliate for the Los Angeles Dodgers, plans to support the cause directly through this event. Half of the proceeds from tickets sold for the August 23 game will go to the Friends of Big Bear Valley.
