The PGA Tour season is coming to a close this week at the Wyndham Championship. As the field arrives in Greensboro, North Carolina, all eyes are on the bubble for the 70-man FedExCup Playoffs. This event is the final chance for players to secure their spot in the postseason bracket, which kicks off next week in Memphis.
Most of the top 70 players are already locked into their positions. Only three golfers currently in the top 20 of the standings are competing this week. For the rest of the field, the pressure is high. Players ranked 71 and below need specific finishes this week to move up the ladder and qualify for the first playoff event.
Jackson Koivun holds the final spot at No. 70. He leads Mac Meissner by less than 12 points, meaning the margin for error is razor-thin for those sitting just outside the cut. Further down the list, the requirements for advancement become much steeper. Everyone from No. 121 Max McGreevy down to No. 181 Webb Simpson now requires a win this week to punch their ticket to the playoffs.
The tournament at Sedgefield Country Club will determine who extends their season and who heads home. With high stakes for everyone in the middle and lower tiers of the points list, the competition promises to be intense through all four rounds.
