LIV Golf to Cancel $40M Season Finale in Michigan
LIV Golf is canceling its $40 million team championship season finale, which was scheduled for August 27–30 in Michigan. The event at The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort in suburban Detroit will not take place this year. This decision marks the second time this season a tournament has been pulled from the schedule following the cancellation of the LIV Golf Louisiana event in April.
The league, which is searching for new investors to support its 2027 operations, has seen increasing pressure as funding from the Saudi Public Investment Fund is slated to end after this season. While LIV Golf officials have not provided a formal comment, reports suggest that infrastructure preparations at the Michigan site were never started. Internal sentiment regarding the financial viability of the remaining events has been skeptical for weeks.
This cancellation drops the league's tournament count from 14 to 12 for the current season. Only two events remain on the calendar for 2026, which are the upcoming tournaments in New Jersey and Indiana. Each of these remaining events carries a $30 million purse.
LIV Golf remains active in its search for up to $350 million in new investment to ensure the survival of the league. CEO Scott O’Neil previously declined to guarantee that all remaining scheduled tournaments would proceed as planned. The league continues to navigate a challenging financial environment as it approaches the end of its current funding commitments.
