Michael Kim etched his name into PGA Tour record books this Friday at the 3M Open. The 33-year-old golfer carded a 59, joining an exclusive group of only 16 players in tour history to break 60.
The pressure mounted as Kim approached the par-5 18th hole. He faced a 24-foot putt to secure the historic score. He focused on ensuring the ball reached the hole, avoiding the common mistake of leaving such a putt short. The ball found the bottom of the cup, and Kim marked the moment with a series of fist pumps.
Kim maintained a high level of precision throughout the round. He ignited his performance with five consecutive birdies starting on the third hole. He also finished his round with four straight birdies to seal the historic number. Overall, he made 11 birdies during his round, with eight coming from distances beyond 10 feet.
This performance places Kim in a strong position with a three-shot lead, though he remains grounded about the work ahead for the weekend. The 59 is the fourth such round on the tour since 2024, following Jake Knapp’s performance at the 2025 Cognizant Classic. Jim Furyk currently holds the tour record with a 58 shot in 2016.
