Joe Gibbs Racing withdraws an allegation against Spire, Chris Gabehart

Joe Gibbs Racing has officially withdrawn a significant allegation against Chris Gabehart and Spire Motorsports in their ongoing legal battle. The claim, which initially asserted that Gabehart was secretly leading competition strategy at Spire in violation of his noncompete agreement, has been pulled from the second amended complaint. JGR conceded in a court filing that it does not possess nonprivileged information to support the allegation.

This development comes amidst an intensifying exchange of legal filings as both sides push their respective cases. Gabehart’s defense has maintained that his departure from JGR resulted from the team's refusal to honor his contract when his job duties shifted. His legal counsel has also accused JGR of improperly accessing privileged communications during forensic examinations, an issue they claim has forced Gabehart to incur unnecessary expenses.

Spire Motorsports continues to counter the litigation, pointing to what they describe as a double standard at JGR. Spire co-owner Jeff Dickerson highlighted a situation involving Robert Smith, a former Spire employee now with JGR. Spire claims an oral agreement existed for a personnel trade or a payment of 100,000 dollars, which they allege JGR has failed to fulfill. Spire has since moved forward with a countersuit for unjust enrichment.

While JGR has filed a motion to dismiss these counterclaims, the recent withdrawal of the strategy allegation marks a notable change in their approach. The legal dispute remains active as both parties argue over contract breaches, wage disputes, and the handling of internal business practices. Court proceedings continue to bring new details to light regarding how these teams manage talent, compensation, and inter-team personnel agreements.
