49ers GM Lynch focused on 'players that are here,' not WR Aiyuk

San Francisco 49ers General Manager John Lynch is moving forward with his team as the organization officially opens training camp for the 2026 season. During a recent media session, Lynch addressed questions regarding wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who currently carries a reserve/left squad designation. Lynch stated that because Aiyuk is not on the 90-man roster, the focus remains on the players present at the facility.

Aiyuk has not been with the team since last December after communication ceased during his rehabilitation from a knee injury. The wide receiver has since expressed a desire to play elsewhere, specifically mentioning his interest in the Washington Commanders through social media platforms. The 49ers have explored potential trade opportunities throughout the offseason, yet no deals have occurred.

Lynch declined to provide updates on any private interactions with the receiver, noting that the organization prioritizes player well-being above all else. Aiyuk must apply to the NFL for reinstatement before any other roster moves or transactions can happen. He has not yet taken those steps, and the team is operating under the assumption that he will not return to the fold.

Alongside the Aiyuk situation, the 49ers are managing the recovery of several key personnel as camp begins. Tight end George Kittle, Alfred Collins, Mykel Williams, and Isaac Guerendo will start on the active list for players unable to perform due to injury. Kittle is working through rehabilitation for an Achilles injury sustained in January. The staff reports that his progress is on track for a potential return for the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams in Australia. Defensive tackle Alfred Collins may return to practice as soon as next week depending on his recovery markers.
