The Cleveland Browns have secured their defensive backfield by signing cornerback Denzel Ward to a new two-year extension worth $62.2 million. This agreement guarantees $52.3 million to the five-time Pro Bowl selection. The contract keeps the veteran defender in Cleveland as the team looks to build its defense around his presence.

With an average annual value of $31.1 million, this deal sets a new standard for defensive backs in the league. This marks the second time in Ward’s professional career that he holds the distinction of being the highest-paid player at his position. The extension adds onto his existing five-year, $100 million deal signed in 2022.

Ward remains a central figure for the Browns organization. Since the departure of Myles Garrett earlier this summer, the 29-year-old corner serves as the longest-tenured player on the roster. Ward grew up in a suburb of Cleveland and has maintained a strong public commitment to the franchise throughout recent off-season transitions.

General manager Andrew Berry prioritized this agreement to ensure stability in the secondary. Last season, Ward started 15 games and recorded 39 tackles along with an interception. Over his eight-year career, the 2018 first-round draft pick has accumulated 18 interceptions and 104 passes defended. The move reinforces the Browns' defensive identity as they head toward the start of the season.
